In this complex project involving a sugar refinery in Thailand, BWEL played a pivotal role in orchestrating the collaboration of diverse stakeholders. With a Japanese parent company, Chinese EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) and South African consultancy in the mix, BWEL’s extensive experience in the sugar industry proved invaluable.

As a vital contributor, we not only designed, but also manufactured, delivered and expertly installed the equipment that powered this dynamic sugar refinery operation. This holistic approach ensured a seamless and successful project execution, showcasing BWEL’s capability to navigate complex international collaborations in the sugar industry.

Challenge

A new sugar mill was being built in Thailand and this larger sugar refinery was designed to process 1,000 tph of sugar cane.

With a Japanese client, Chinese EPC, South African process consultant, Thailand engineering office and Japanese inspectors, the management of the stake holders to deliver the project in the 12 month time line was a significant challenge. The successful collaboration and timely project completion underscored BWEL’s expertise in managing intricate international endeavours in the sugar industry while meeting deadlines.

Solution

Flexibility in execution played a pivotal role in aligning stakeholder expectations. BWEL’s commitment extended to deploying personnel in regional offices to foster relationships, promptly address decisions and meet the desired outcomes. This involved experienced personnel working closely with the Thailand design office and the Chinese EPC. Furthermore, the site installation and commissioning phase drew upon the expertise of individuals from diverse disciplines, including fitters, electrical engineers and PLC engineers, ensuring a comprehensive and successful project delivery. The ability to adapt and collaborate effectively was paramount in achieving project success within the 12-month timeline.
